We come to you looking for hope. We have one thing to say today. During the second week of advent we have the chance to light the second purple candle the peace candle. The angels proclaimed peace on earth when the baby jesus was born.

Hope peace joy and love have finally come. The advent wreath has four purple candles and one of white. One purple candle is lit. During four weeks in december most churches will celebrate advent a season of expectation of the arrival of christ by lighting five candles.

Today we wonder as we listen to the evening news is peace possible. We light a candle for hope sending prayers high into the inky heavens and dreams deep into the human soul. Let us remember our need for a savior to save us from our sins and give us peace with god. When everything else we rely on fails us our only hope is in you.

We saw last week that hope has to do with patience and waiting. Traditions vary from church to church but usually the third week in advent is set aside as more celebratory than others. We need inner peace but we also need peace with others. As advent dawns god of all hope shine your light on the story of the saints who journeyed before us.
