When changing furnace filters many people wonder where the arrow of the filter should point towards.
If there is no arrow the side that is stronger or reinforced by cardboard or wire mesh is the side the arrow should be pointing to.
The arrow should always point in the direction the air is flowing.
You can look at the old filter s arrows before you install your new filter and make sure that the new filter s arrows face the same direction.
But sometimes you may not know which way the air is flowing.

The arrow on your filter should always face the unit and away from the return air duct that carries the air that will be heated or cooled.
This means you want the spent air that is being pulled in to flow through your air filter before being pushed back out into your home.
Turn off you hvac system while you are changing your air filter.
These arrows should be pointing in the direction that air flows through your system which is away from the supply ducts and typically toward the blower.
