If this doesn t work do a hard reset of both your dot and the device. The microphone has been turned off and alexa is not actively listening for your commands. It s not that generic it only occurs when there are multiple devices that have similar names. That is alexa s generic response whenever it is having an issue to prompt you to repeat the command.

Echo devices might be grouped improperly or there might be wi fi issues. Make sure you re using the power adapter that was included with your device. So if you ask alexa to turn on a light and she responds okay but the light does not come on try manually switching it on and off until the light illuminates. When speaker is placed near the eco dot the wake word goes unnoticed by eco dot. Push the microphone button to turn it back on. There may be a simple culprit such as a power or internet outage.

In the alexa app delete and re add the smart device you re having trouble with. Or you could try making a group just called lights. Not plugged in properly make sure the power cord is fully inserted into the bottom of the echo and the cord fits into the groove at the back of the device. Also be sure that the power adapter is correctly plugged into a working outlet.

Make sure you have an active internet connection. Sometimes manually cycling the light is the only thing you need to do to restore voice control. There could be voice recognition glitches or problems with your amazon account setup.
